Cup holder Design
A project by Hajin Kim for 24-672 DIY: Design and Fabrication
This product is made out of 3mm smoke tint acrylic, designed to press fit the cup into the holder and extend the holding surface of the cup. It comes in 4 pieces: 2 major prongs, 2 smaller supports.
- The smooth and clean curves of the cup holder are to keep your boring paper cup from sticking out from the rest of your sleek MYKEA furniture.
- Easy to assemble (DIY)
- Little material used, and can tessellate cut when mass producing to further reduce waste
- Eye-catching
- Prongs allow for generous amounts of variety in cup size
The Final Product
The process
sketching pt 1
Getting out all the ideas for cup holders! Starting from a cup and without thought of how it would actually work.
Sketching pt 2
After deciding to go with the goblet/wine glass stye, some thoughts and ideas on variations, as well as how it would actually work.
CAD
Using Solidworks, made a simple CAD model to be cut. The rectangles were supposed to be etching, but I later decided I didn't like them.
Cut and done
Ran it through a lasercutter, and put them all together! Cheers!
