Mold making- phallus
Project created for 24-672 DIY Design and Fabrication at Carnegie Mellon University
Why
For this project, we were tasked to create an original 3D model that would be able to be manufactured into a silicone mold.
The model can be of anything so long as it:
1. No more than 2 cubic inches in volume
2. No single dimension over 4 inches.
3. Minimum wall thickness of 0.06"
4. Must be one continuous shape with no hollow voids
I chose this shape a little too quickly. I will admit, I did not expect this process to be so involved or so long. However, I am happy with the results! Overall, I had minimum bubbling of the resin, high quality details, and minimal post-processing.

rendering
For this project, we had to produce renders of our model.
I created my model from scratch in Sculptris, and then rendered it as an obj. file in Fusion 360.
finished products
From left to right: 3D print, raw cast without heater, raw cast with heater, finished cast with degassed resin and heater
I am astonished at how much of a difference utilizing the heater was for my project. Next time, I would like to try different types of resin, as well as to try layering different kinds of resin and colours.
